Classic porcupine quill diamond shaped earrings

Sorry for the lack of posts lately! I've just started my new year with a brand new semester at art school! So it may be a little while until you see a few more newer pieces. I've begun working a lot with metal, and brought along with me some baleen, walrus ivory, as well as some bison horn in hopes that once I learn the basic techniques I can apply them somehow to these exotic northern materials I've gathered.
Anyhow, stay tuned this upcoming spring for a whole new 'Creations for Continuity' collection.

Dentallium

Materis: Dentallium shells, swarvoski crystals, tanned caribou hide.
Dentallium shells were once considered an extreamly high valued item primarily by the west coast natives, extending to the north as a form of currency. Traditionally Dentallium also measured ones status and significant wealth, although today they are most commonly crafted beautifully in pacific and Inuit clothing adornment, typically for ceremonial purposes. I can only imagine how wonderful the sound of hundreds of dentallium shells strung onto clothing, bouncing around during ceremonial dancing must be! One day.
If you ever get a chance, check out the stunning images of traditional dentalium dresses on google search! They are icrediblely geogeous!!

“Okay Caroline, these for now, those for later.” For this project I was given at least 5 spare band aids for my tragic fingers. The upside of this current project is that i've been building some slight arm muscle! I like to call it my man hobby, much like I’m one of the boys except with chicken arms, and a desirous tendency to girly dance after every finished project. Just for the record, i'm way cooler than i sound, i swear!

Materials: shells collected by the ashoonas'. They have, by far the most interesting collection of materials. Whale bone, antler bone, every kind of shell collected on the queen charlotte island, various aminal Ivory. My next upcoming project is using Baleen(part of whale) combined with mamoth ivory.

Last sunday my friend Laura and I shared a booth, selling our handmade goodies alongside quite a few other local artist'. Positively inspiring! I'm always so fascinated by watching other artist' at work; in viewing thier different/similar approaches and techniques with similar/different mediums and material.
This here is a small branch that Laura had found and stuck into a pottery mold, used to hang our jewelery from! Such a good idea! I might just do that also; for hanging my own stuff at home!

My good friend Sibila, who's getting married this summer in Serbia!!!, wanted a fushia wedding dress~ in which i thought was very appropriate! She's got a lot spunk and personality, so with that she'd totally rock it. Her fiance and family however.. weren't so keen.
SO! i offered to make her some fushia earrings intead to spiff and sparkle her up a little. <3

On the numerous suggestions of "you should make it a headband"
Well, i did. and it actually turned out to be a dazzling idea! Thanks you guys. I basically took the embroidered quill bracelet technique and made it longer. I almost don't want to sell it. But, my physical health depends on this income, a girls gotta eat right? That and my savings account for a one way ticket to Europe. Okay, maybe not one a way...i'll most likely make it a two way...maybe.

I'm sort of struggling right now with my jewelery, with not having much of a work space, trying to afford materials, and finding time to sit and create new pieces. But there will be a major pay off in the end, i can feel it. My "taaa daaaa moment will arrive soon enough, with a bedazzling amount of peices! i won't let y'all down

This piece i pulled an all nighter for, which i have yet to finish! I was also somewhat highly caffeinated, which helped. It was really exhilarating...i haven't done that in a while.

I kind of miss my "Vampire" year at Capilano College, where an idea would only come super late in the night, and i'd simply jump out of bed and work till it was time to hop on the bus to school.

This one is not the handspun, yet still woven on a loom. I've yet to make one with my handspun wool...but it's coming. This particular one i made for ma good friend Cyril. I tried to make this one fit in with his wardrobe. He's got quite the style.
